Adieu

New Year. New Start. New Life.

2009 is going to be different. No more school. No more tutorials. No more lectures. No more CCAs. But it's not all bad. These two years haven't been exactly blog happy- I don't think I've given this blog the tender loving care it deserves. It has a grand total of less than 50 posts for an entire duration of 2 years. But that's what you get for being out there living your life. And studying for A Levels.

New Chapter. New Blog.

And as i move on to the next phase God has in store for me (please have mercy), i shall be recording my thoughts and emotions on another platform; another blog. Keeping with the the theme that will (plague) the next year and a half of my life, the new blog can be located at:

www.armsandtheboy.blogspot.com

I hope i will get to jot down my life for all to see more frequently in the near future and thanks for coming round to read about it.

Goodbye to this part of my life. I will carry the spillovers of these times and the memories will be baggage that i will delightfully carry on.

Times Like These

It's times like these you wonder what you could do if you had all the time in the world. When it's only a couple of days more to the real deal and everything else you've done so far is secondary and it all boils down to that few hours (and few pages) to sum it all up. Scary huh. But we all go through it and we survive (well most of us anyways).

So instead of doing what i should be doing i must confess that i've been daydreaming a little and thinking of the things i want to pick up after all this is done and settled. Even though i'm quite sure i won't get down to doing most of these things but hey can't someone just think about how things could be like? Like spending time going down streets less traveled and snapping different perspectives and churning out images that mean. Like sitting down in front of the laptop with a nice cup of tea and putting down on screen the thoughts and imaginations that drop by to say hi in a fleeting moment. Like experimenting with sounds that somehow start to sound creepily alike after a while. Where on earth do people find the time to do all these things?

These are the things you dream of right now and say to yourself that this is what i am going to do when it's finally all over. And when it finally does, you find yourself caught up will a million and one things that have nothing to do with what you've been dreaming of all these while.

And you wonder where people find the time to dream.

Sexing Singapore

The recent ads for MCYS's Family campaign is really good. I'm sure you've seen the mad dancing girl one (i have it below). I love the short-film feel to it and i think its the next step in the right artistic direction for Singaporean advertising and it's good to see the govt leading it in the right way. There's another one that's quite good to- with the small boy walking into school with his dad and then turning around only to see that he's gone but really he's just hiding behind the pillar. It's and ad asking people to go for medicals i think. Anyways i heard these really cool commercials were done by this artist Yasmin i think. She's foreign talent but at least we can see the talent and that's good. (: She's done a couple of similar-themed ads for malaysia to. I've included them below. Enjoy.

i really like this one. it's really sad.

And this one's really funny. watch out for the smug old ladies' faces by the end of the short film. haha.

Lit Class

I had to work on this poem in Lit class by Philip Larkin called Sad Steps and guess what i found out that this guy is really quite cool. Just look at one of his works- This Be The Verse. He could totally pull off being a teenager today. (:

This Be The Verse by Philip Larkin
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another's throats.

Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don't have any kids yourself.

Hissy Fit

To all those complaining about the rise in cost of living:

Do something about it.

There's really nothing substantial anybody can do to cushion this rice in prices (pun intended, although it's a bit late) because giving out more money is not going to do anything but worsen the situation. More money just means that we will carry on our extravagant air-conditioned lifestyles which will push prices even further and then we'll all start to cry inflation all over again.

The thing to do:

Save the environment.

And no i'm not talking about holding a massive global-scale rock concert to waste even more electricity and at the same time encouraging people to aid the helpless Earth.

The culprit is really our excessive use of fuels. We're squeezing the Earth dry of oil. And then they proudly say the future is in bio-fuels and we've got a happy ending. Or not. The real reason why food prices are escalating is precisely because of this happy ending.

It's simple. When you play with your food, you just get less food to eat.

And all those hurricanes don't help one bit. Guess who's responsible for these 'natural disasters'? Us. Mankind. All those things we release into the air that clog up our global air-conditioning system is what causes these tragedies. To think we blame the Earth for it.

I guess what they teach in Sunday School about how natural disasters are not caused by the wrath of God isn't true. That's how God made the world.

If you mess with the Earth, it'll mess the hell out of you back.
It's as simple as that.

Now go back to living in your pretty little air-conditioned rooms and driving your huge fanciful cars and continue squeezing your dear mother Earth dry.
